Check out a small blog post I wrote for CSNPhilly.com about Pat Burrell, who on Saturday signed a one-day contract with the Phillies to retire as a member of the club.
You can read the story by clicking here.
I have fond memories of watching Pat the Bat, as he was often called, in a Phils uniform.
Of course, I can vividly remember how frustrated my Dad and I became the many times Burrell struck out. And the former No. 1 overall pick struck out a lot during his Phillies career; 1,273 times to be exact, which is good for second all-time in franchise history.
I'm definitely sad to see him officially retire, but Burrell currently has a solid gig working as a scout for the San Francisco Giants.
He apparently is doing a good job as a scout (that according to Joe Buck on Fox Sports), and although he may be working for another team in the NL, I have a feeling I'm not the only Phillies fan hoping he thrives in his new job.
